What We Wore Today: Olivia

The dramatic cutouts, sheer patches, and geometry of Olivia's outfit emit depth and variety, which can be especially hard to pull off in a monochromatic ensemble.  In the spirit of Halloween, this super-slimming all-black look is utterly bewitching!

Cavan (2)

Cavan is always dressed ahead of the styles. Majorly loving how her high-waisted shorts, slouchy neutral sweater, thigh-highs, and Doc Martens come together to create an effortless relaxed-chic vibe.

Jordana

The weather here in Northern California has been majorly indecisive lately, so we love how Jordana's outfit works perfectly for the transition from warmer to cooler weather we've been experiencing! While her flowy terra cotta top, knee socks, and school girl-esque Mary Janes scream "autumn", her high-waisted shorts are the perfect choice for a fall day where it still feels like summer (70-something degrees today! Weird, right?)

School Newspaper

Thank you to Collin McGarrett from our school's newspaper, The Redwood Bark, for writing such a lovely article about School of Style! xoxo

"Notable school style inspires creation of fashion blog:
Three students have started a style blog highlighting the variety of styles of different students’ outfits at school.
Juniors Claire Cella, Olivia Moskowitz, and Kenza Salem, the creators of the blog School of Style, will now be featured in the online magazine The Violet for the blog they started acknowledging students who dress well.
“We wanted to bring attention to all the people who put an effort and care about themselves and have unique styles,” Moskowitz said. “When you dress well, you do feel better about yourself.”
School of Style posts pictures between once a day and once a week. The posts highlight what different students are wearing, along with a brief summary of their outfit. School of Style also has a section that shows what the bloggers themselves are wearing.
“We try not to focus on what we like and what we don’t like, and just focus on how people are dressing day-by-day and how their style evolves and changes,” Cella said. “It’s fun to see people who have fun with the way they dress.”
Cella got the idea to make a blog about students’ styles when she started reading The Sartorialist, a similar blog about fashion in New York.
“There’s a lot out there about what designers are wearing and what adults are wearing but you don’t see a lot about kids who are dressing well,” Cella said.
Their Halloween-themed spread for The Violet, which will be published in mid-October, is about different outfits and makeup that go with the holiday, how to do the  Halloween makeup, and how to use lots of accessories.
“We didn’t want it to be scary, but we wanted it to be edgy, eerie, cool, and show how normal people can incorporate [makeup and accessories] into their lives,” Salem said.
Additionally, School of Style has a section featuring students’ styles on an international scale.
Cella and Salem contacted friends and relatives that they have who live in Sweden and France who are interested in style, and they became student contributors for the blog.
“I thought it would be kind of interesting to see how students dress in different countries,” Cella said. “We can take bits and pieces of their style and incorporate it into ours. It’s inspiring.”
Moskowitz said that their blog is featuring style, not just fashion.
“Styling is how you wear something, versus fashion, which is what you wear,” Moskowitz said. “You can take a plain t-shirt and some kid could wear it normally with icky jeans, or someone can take it and wear a really cute necklace and make it something different and unique.”
Cella said getting the pictures they’ll use for the blog is more difficult than she had originally thought it would be.
“It’s hard to find time between classes to stop people and ask to take their picture,” Cella said. “It’s really awkward and there’s often bad lighting. The blog also focuses on photography, and we want the photograph to show how someone is dressed in a good light. It can be difficult.”
Salem said that if anyone thinks a student dresses well and should be featured in the blog, School of Style would love to take his or her submissions.
“If people want to be photographed by us, approach us,” Salem said. “We want people’s ideas.” "
